Construction of infrastructure and the urban built environment is one of the fastest  growing areas of the Indian economy.  Yet understandings of the labour dynamics of the sector, which is primarily staffed by by migrant workers, is a significant gap in the literature.  These issues are analysed in a study of urbanisation, migration and construction in five South Asian countries that I worked on a while back.  The final report is now available, so I’ll just leave a link here.
