चैत ने करवट ली, रंगों के मेले के लिए
फूलों ने रेशम बटोरा – तू नही आया

दोपहरें लम्बी हो गयीं, दाखों को लाली छु गयी
दरातीं ने गेंहू की बालिया चूम ली – तू नही आया |

बादलों की दुनिया छा गयी, धरती ने दोनों हाथ बढ़ाकर
आसमान की रहमत पी ली – तू नही आया |

पेड़ों ने जादू कर दिया, जंगल से आयी हवा कि
होठों में शहद भर गया – तू नही आया |

ऋतु ने एक टोना कर दिया, चाँद ने आकर
रात के माथे पर झूमर लटका दिया – तू नही आया |

आज तारों ने फिर कहा, उम्र के महल में अब भी
हुस्न के दिए जल रहे हैं – तू नही आया |

किरणों का झुरमुट कहता है, रातों की गहरी नींद से
रोशनी अब भी जागती है – तू नहीं आया |

April took a new turn, for the festival of colours,
Flowers gathered silk – you didn’t come

Afternoon became so long, redness touched the grapes,
The sickle kissed the hairs of the grain – you didn’t come.

A world of clouds hung down, earth stretched with both hands,
And drank the mercy of the sky – you didn’t come.

Trees made magic, a breeze from the wild
Filled lips with honey – you didn’t come.

Autumn cast enchantment, and the moon shone
A chandelier on the brow of night – you didn’t come.

The stars said again today: in age’s palace, still
Beauties are burning – you didn’t come.

Tangled rays tell, that from many nights’ deep sleep
Light still wakes – you didn’t come.
